I love the Sofabaton U2!
This is a review for the Sofabaton U2 universal remote.Once set up, this is a wonderful remote. I use it to control three devices: a BluRay player, an AV unit, and a TV set.So easy! Instead of picking up each remote in turn, you just scroll the little wheel to the device you want to control, and press the buttons.And I use a macro to turn all the devices on and off, with one button press.And it lights up when I pick it up in the dark. Of course the room is dark – I just watched a movie!Basic setup was easy and quick. Adding a macro was not difficult at all, but you may want to scroll down for the rest of my review for some tips on avoiding mistakes when creating a macro. The basic setup will let the Sofabaton replace all your other remotes, which is what you really want it for; running macros is the icing on the cake.The basic programming is simple. Install the sofabaton app on your phone.You then connect via Bluetooth to the Android or iPhone app on your phone.Then download the code set for each device you want to control. If your device isn’t on the list, contact them. Their tech support is patient and helpful. You can usually teach the new remote to learn from the old remote in the unlikely event that a command is missing.Test each device with the “trigger” link on the app, just to make sure one or more of the buttons does what you expect. Then you download the code set, through your phone to the remote. Easy and intuitive.Adding a macro is a little less intuitive, but not terribly hard.Two things that you need to know: be sure you use the “done” button after you complete each action, then use the save button when all the actions in your macro are as you want them.The other is that all the actions for each macro have to be linked to one of the devices. (That should have been obvious, but I’m new to this stuff).For example, I used the red button while the DVD player is selected to send all the power on commands to all three of my devices with one button push.Then the blue button while the AV unit was selected, to send all the power off commands to all three devices. Just an example of course.I couldn’t think of any other macros I’d want, but it’s nice to know I can do it easily if something should come up.I took advantage of ChatGPT for figuring out what I was doing wrong on the macro.Chat is familiar with the Sofabaton U2, and thinks it’s a good choice. And after using it for a few days, I wholeheartedly agree.When you bag your old remotes, be sure to remove the batteries from them.In summary: this is a fantastic replacement for your pile of remotes you’ve been dealing with. I recommend this universal remote without reservation.

My favorite universal remote just got better!
I’m somewhat of a power user when it comes to universal remotes because I have a lot of devices in my entertainment system including various HDMI switches and old school CRT televisions. I have tried many universal remotes in the past including the Logitech Harmony line, but they were simply trying to do too much and in the process, made the most basic thing a universal remote should do, so much harder — controlling your devices!The premise with Sofabaton is simple, you switch devices with the wheel and control the selected device with the face buttons. They make the set up process so easy, the app works surprisingly seamless when connecting to the remote. Once connected, you can select the type of device from a database of devices they have , which makes it easy to get started. However, the real utility comes from being able to control Bluetooth devices. I have a Google Chromecast hooked up to my TV, and the set up was a breeze. I can easily control the Chromecast, and switch to Hisense TV if I need to change any settings.As mentioned, I also have old school CRT televisions, and using the IR learning function, I was able to program and control my Sony Trinitron CRT TV using the same remote. It works with any IR supported device, so I’ve also set up my AC and desk fan, and able to control those using the same remote.The new model of Sofabaton U2 now comes with backlit buttons which is a welcome change. While the screen was already bright in the original model, this makes being able to see the buttons in the dark so much easier. In addition, I have noticed that the size of a remote is slight taller than the original model, maybe about half inch taller. However, by doing so, they have also enlarged some of the buttons on the remote which makes them easier to press, such as the power all button at the very top, and number buttons.Finally, the battery life on the Sofabaton has always been impressive. While I haven’t used the new one long enough to get a full sense of the battery life, the original one usually lasted me at least an entire year using rechargeable AA batteries. I suspect the backlit buttons might impact the battery life slightly, in the greater scheme of things, the battery life here is mostly just “insert and forget”.I’d highly recommend anyone the Sofabaton U2 if you’re in the market for a universal remote. It works well with all the IR devices (including CRT televisions), as well as Bluetooth devices. The set up is very easy, and it simply… works! I’ve been using the original for about 4 years now and will keep it as a back up, while the new one with the backlit buttons takes its place in the living room!

Great Universal Replacement Remote
I wanted to give the remote 4.75 rating, but am limited to a 4 or 5.I’ve been using the Sofabaton U2 for a few several days, and I’m really impressed. Setup was surprisingly easier than I thought — just install the app, follow a few steps, and I had it controlling my TV, receiver, and dvd player in no time. The app does a good job of walking you through things, so even if you’re not super tech-savvy, it’s pretty stress-free.A really nice feature of this remote is the huge library of supported devices. I was able to connect it to some older equipment I thought would be a pain to configure, but the remote handled it effortlessly. Once everything was paired, switching between devices was smooth and responsive.Another nice feature is the backlit buttons. It’s such a small thing, but it makes a big difference when you’re watching something in a dark room. No more pressing the wrong button or grabbing your phone to use it as a flashlight.Overall, the remote feels really good in your hand, and the button layout is intuitive. I do worry about the duty cycle of the center round button as I use it a lot so time will tell. It’s clear Sofabaton put some thought into the design.The one downside—and the reason I knocked off a star— is that the app doesn’t offer a way to back up your remote settings. So if you lose or replace the remote, you’ll have to start from scratch. That’s a bit of a hassle for a product that’s meant to make life simpler.Still, for the price and the features you get, I think the Sofabaton U2 is a fantastic option for consolidating all your remotes into one.
