sturdy design, functional, cleans up well – this review also has some washing and drying tips
After my cleaning crew of many years went out of business, I decided to try to gut it out on my own. Alas, this decision did not intimidate dust bunnies from hopping all over the bedroom, and eventually I had to actually get off my duff and do something. I am learning on the fly. Yesterday I learned that this OXO duster is a very good product and from all appearances will serve me well for some time. The duster is comfortable in the hand and picks up dust well. The handle is long enough that in combination with my 5′ 6″ height I was able to reach the tops of most of the framed art in the house. To get more use out of the duster before it became saturated with dust, I used a rechargeable hand vacuum a couple times to get most of the dust off the duster. When that move seemed to reach its limit, I swapped out the microfiber sleeve for a new one, which I had the foresight to buy in the same order as the duster. The simple snap that anchors the sleeve onto the handle is easy to work with and swapping is, indeed, a snap. This whole strategy went well and it is an approach I plan to continue to use.I was surprised, when the duster arrived, that it is not cylindrical, but rather is a kind of dusting tongue. This actually is an advantage, since it means the tongue will reach into awkward places, like behind unmovable furniture, a little more easily. While the product literature stresses to only use hand washing and hand drying, I experimented a bit, with (so far) good results. I have a recently purchased LG top loading machine that does not have an agitator, and I guessed that this might be gentle enough, with cold water and a “delicate”, low spin speed setting, to not injure the fabric. This seems to have worked well. It got the sleeves free of dust, without causing any noticeable shedding of the bright orange microfiber. In fact, I wonder whether hand washing might actually turn out to be less gentle than this machine wash, while at the same time clearing out less wash/rinse water than the machine wash does. One caution – the dust has to go somewhere in the machine washing, and that somewhere is your drain; I noticed that the replaceable lint filter I have on the drain tube was dirtier than it had been – but on the bright side it also contained no noticeable orange microfiber! Overall, I will continue to use the machine wash and live with more frequent changes in the drain filter, if it comes to that. For the drying, I had an inspiration that turned out to be quite productive. Thinking about how I was going to airdry the duster sleeves, I realized I could easily bend a standard wire shirt hanger to create frames that approximate the plastic loop of the duster unit that the fabric sleeve slides over. This was easily done with a couple of pliers to generate the “Duster Sleeve Drying Frame” (patent pending) shown in the photograph attached. There are two drying units shown: the one in the back is outfitted with two orange microfiber sleeves just out of the washing machine; the unit in the foreground is empty, so you can see how it was bent to accommodate two sleeves. In this design the hanger hook is left intact so it can be hung like a standard hanger. The side prongs for attaching the sleeves are angled upward as much as possible to limit the possibility that the sleeve might slide off – although this did not seem to be a problem, presumably because I left the wire loop wide enough that the fit was snug. After hanging like this overnight in the laundry area of the basement, the sleeves were dry, very fluffy, and ready to go at it once more. And again, no noticeable shedding of the microfiber.

The best – I tried a few
This is the best one of all the ones I got. I have a couple of cars so I ordered different ones to have for each car. This gets the crevices !

It’s a duster.
I have a love hate relationship with dusters. I love how they pick up the dust, but I hate how they remain forever dusty no matter how hard you try to shake them out. The thought of dusting with a dusty wand annoys me, but I’m way too cheap to perpetually purchase disposable dusters. That being said, this duster is fine. It does its job. I like the grip, the flat shape, and the flexible wand. But the real measure of duster is how well it holds up to being whacked around to release the dust. I’m not entirely confident this will stand the abuse over time.

Leaves dust in the dust
Great product! Picks up and traps dust effortless leaving nothing behind. The surface area of the duster is a great size and handle is just right. It would be nice if it came with an extra duster head, but I knew it didn’t when I bought it. I will be buying a second duster pad so I can have it handy and ready to go anytime.

Dusts well and easy to use
I am tired of paying for the overpriced Swiffer dusters. I tried buying off brand replacements but those are not good quality. I tried this oxo brand duster and am pleasantly surprised. It does a great job in collecting dust and keeping it on the fibers. I have vacuumed with hand tool and cleaned it. And I washed in washer along with other microfiber clothes. It was easy to remove from handle and put back.Size is good and eat to manuever.

This duster actually picks up dust! It’s compact, and lightweight so can be used in those small hard to reach places. I like that it is machine washable as well, so expecting to get long wear out of it. It did not dissapoint!

I bought this particular, hand duster. I had read an article, giving proffessional advice, on the best type of duster to use. I already know that microfibre, is rated very highly. I also know that this make, has good reviews. It’s not my first, microfibre hand held duster. I had another make before. They have come a long way, in the quality and effectiveness, of microfibre dusters. They work in a similar way, to the old feather duster. Trapping dust, almost magnetically. This one has a good grip. Hence the name. It is about 18″ (46cm) long from each end. The handle is 7.5″ you can work that one out. 4.5″ width of duster. It is quite flat. Has a popper on the end of the duster. That clips on or off the stem. The fabric is very soft. Almost similar, to one of those, multi fibre mops. You just slide the duster off. To wash or change. I have tested it on a few surfaces. It can catch on rough ones. It cleaned between the slats, of my portable radiator, very well. Under the t.v., mirrors, tops of doors etc. Window ledges. I am 5′ 3″ and l can reach, low ceiling lights with it. My problem is, that l have three parrots. I have developed a cough. That’s not good! I have to be extra vigilant, with the animal dander. A soft cloth, is not enough. Even after cleaning the surfaces daily. I used this today. There was a fine layer, of parrot dander. Over everything. I never use chemical sprays, polish etc. Only damp cloths. I prefer steam cleaners. However, l don’t want to wet, all my surfaces daily. I cannot use chemicals, with the birds, anyway. In the bathroom and kitchen. I use a professional, none toxic cleaner. White vinegar is good. Added to a fine mist spray. Or onto a damp cloth. I personally, would not put this duster, into a washing machine. I just gave it a good shaking outside. When it needs a wash, l would rinse under running water. Dry it naturally. No detergent. It’s dust! Not grease. My last one lasted 20yrs. This one is a lot softer. I like the cheerful colour. Microfibre can be a bit harsh. I would not use them on delicate objects. Like ornamental treasures. Then l would use, a very soft cloth. You know, those dusters. Or a computer magnetic mop. A few fibres came off, whilst unwrapping. That was due, to it having some sticky binding tape. Around the handle. I highly recommend, this duster. If after more use. l need to add a foot note . I will…I ordered from Prime last night. It arrived today. A worth while purchase. You can also get replacement dusters.
