Well worth it.
Love it so far. Installed it myself with relative ease. Only need some basic tools. The App has a step by step installation guide. I advise you go to their website to verify compatibility of existing wiring before ordering. Be sure to order the Trim Kit as you will likely need it. I like that I can program using my iPhone as well as on the device. You may want to tweak the default Eco settings depending on your preferences.

Top notch company, top notch products!
What attracted me to this product was the ability to fine tune the functions, particularly the on/off cycle time. My defunct Honeywell thermostat had a decent cycle time, the new version of that product was horrible, on/off every ten minutes, poor for heating efficiency and very hard on the equipment, and after consulting with their India tech support, confirmed this could not be adjusted. On the other end of the spectrum, I can’t say enough good things about Ecobee. I spent about 45 minutes on the phone with their tech support who was excellent, answered all of my questions, had me send photos of my current wiring configuration and confirmed I needed a power block as well, explained clearly what wires needed to go where and then sent me a discount coupon too. I had complete confidence in self install and knew I could count on their technical support if needed (which I didn’t). This product completely met my expectations, a bit on the expensive side but worth every penny. You won’t go wrong here.

An excellent smart programable home thermostat.
This is an excellent thermostat however I feel it should be installed by a professional if you don’t have some previous basic knowledge of hvac or you are not somewhat of an above average handy man. This one works well with my heat pump with electric back up in an 1800 sq ft home. I couldn’t set one of the features required for set up because of my rural location but Ocobe support was able to send an update to my unit on line within about 30 min. just for my location. They are much easier to work with than the other brand and a real person answered the phone. It is easy to use by controlling it from your phone from any where. I had my own hvac business years ago and so did my brother. We are both retired but I still feel qualified to recommend this unit.

Virtually useless junk
On the positive, pretty straightforward installation, out of the box operation, and integration with the app and web interface. Prompt customer service. On the negative… Well, it’s a rudimentary hunk that fails at basic features.You would think that a “smart” thermostat that can already communicate with the internet and with your phone and with Ecobee headquarters can also communicate with other thermostats in the same house. Well, you would be wrong. For all its “smarts” this is a basic standalone device missing an obviously needed feature.You would also think that you could set different schedules for different seasons. Wrong again. You get ONE schedule, and you can customize it to death with temperature settings (but not with start times, see below) , but when you want to change from cooling season to heating season… You have to MANUALLY enter all the settings from scratch. And then do it again (from a piece of paper or something) when the seasons change. That is squarely in dumb territory, not even approaching smart.Oh, and you don’t get the option to set the schedule you want. The app gives you 30-minute intervals. The video on the website misleadingly shows minutes, but there are no minute options on the schedule. On the instructional webpage is says “If you wish to change the start time of a particular Activity, simply tap on the Activity (Home, Away, or Sleep) and adjust the time.” Except that you CANNOT adjust the time. You can just pick from the options given. Absolute garbage.A waste of $$. Look elsewhere.
